Chapter 6 explores the literature on sibling relationships and the influence ASD has on them. This chapter also highlights the unique experiences of neurotypical siblings being raised with a sibling with ASD. The authors of this chapter highlight the positive (e.g., close sibling interactions, positive personality traits) and negative effects (e.g., impact on peer relationships, strained relationship with parents, burden of present and future caregiving choices) for siblings when families are raising children with ASD. There is also a description about families that raise multiple children with ASD. |
