Autism. An Inside-Out approach / Donna WILLIAMS
Titre : Autism. An Inside-Out approach : An Innovative Look at the Mechanics of 'Autism'and Its Developmental 'Cousins' Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Donna WILLIAMS, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 1996 Importance : 326 p. Présentation : Index Format : 15,5cm x 23cm x 1,8cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-85302-387-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PAR-A PAR-A - Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : Donna Williams' challenging new book, written by an autistic person for people with autism and related disorders, carers, and the professionals who work with them, is a practical handbook to understanding, living with and working with autism. Exploring autism from the inside, it shows clearly how the behaviours associated with autism can have a range of different causes, and in many cases reflect the autistic person's attempt to gain control over their internal world. The sensory and perceptual problems that challenge a person with autism are described in depth, together with strategies for tackling them so as to enable that person to take more control of their lives. Donna Williams comments on the various approaches to autism, drawing out those strategies that are of real use, and explaining why some approaches may prove counterproductive, leaving the autistic person feeling even more isolated and misunderstood.
Taking the view that understanding autism is the key to managing the condition, Donna Williams' book will bring illumination to all those who have felt baffled and frustrated by the outside appearance of autism. It contains a wealth of helpful suggestions, insights and new ideas, exploding old myths and promoting a view that all those involved with autism will find empowering and creative.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=168 Autism. Code-barres Cote Support Localisation Section Disponibilité DOC0000345 PAR-A WIL Livre Centre d'Information et de Documentation du CRA Rhône-Alpes PAR - Particularités et Fonctionnement Disponible Autism and Diet / Rosemary KESSICK
Titre : Autism and Diet : What You Need to Know Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Rosemary KESSICK, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2009 Importance : 96 p. Format : 21,6cm x 13,8cm x 0,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84310-983-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : VIE-B VIE-B - Vie Quotidienne - Alimentation Résumé : Parents have been reporting a connection between autism and diet for decades, but for many years the science behind the connection was evasive. Today, we see a growing body of research to back up parental-reported evidence that certain foods and other environmental sources can affect the developing brains of some children, and trigger adverse behavioural episodes.
Written by an autism expert who has witnessed in her own child the dramatic improvement that can be made through dietary intervention, this book offers an 'easily digestible' guide to the science behind the considerations; strategies for implementing a safe diet; a handy list of ingredients to be avoided; as well as a concise bank of essential resources and useful contacts.
This book offers an accessibly concise guide to all aspects of dietary invention in children with autism, and is an ideal resource for parents, teachers and any other family member or caregiver who needs to know how to help implement a safe and healthy diet for an autistic child.
Rosemary Kessick is former CEO of AiA (Allergy Induced Autism), a UK-based charity dedicated to identifying the underlying causes, biochemical effects and dietary aspects of autistic spectrum disorders. Together with NAS (the National Autistic Society) and PACE (Parents Autism Campaign for Education), AiA formed the joint advisory committee to the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Autism. As the mother of a now adult son with autism and inflammatory bowel disease, whose condition has been dramatically improved with appropriate medical and dietary intervention, Rosemary championed the need for recognition of gastrointestinal disease in autistic children and adults, and was instrumental in its inclusion as a key theme in the autism exemplar of the National Service Framework (NSF).Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=825 Autism and Diet : What You Need to Know [Texte imprimé et/ou numérique] / Rosemary KESSICK, Auteur . - Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2009 . - 96 p. ; 21,6cm x 13,8cm x 0,5cm.

Titre : Autism and Gastrointestinal Complaints : What You Need to Know Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Rosemary KESSICK, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2009 Importance : 80 p. Format : 21,6cm x 13,8cm x 0,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84310-984-6 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : VIE-B VIE-B - Vie Quotidienne - Alimentation Résumé : Children on the autistic spectrum frequently suffer from gastrointestinal complaints such as diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, abdominal distension and flatulence. Far from being 'just part of the condition', worldwide research is confirming parents' reports that many of these children are actually suffering from serious underlying conditions which, if left untreated, are a source of constant pain, which in turn can greatly exacerbate autistic behavioural symptoms.
Autism and Gastrointestinal Complaints summarises the symptoms often experienced and offers an accessible explanation of the underlying medical condition, together with practical suggestions as to how to help reduce the child's suffering. The findings of the latest research are presented in an understandable way, with a glossary explaining some of the terms often used by medics in plain language.
This book offers a concise guide to all aspects of gastrointestinal complaints in children with autism, and is an ideal resource for parents, teachers and any other family member or caregiver who needs to know how to help an autistic child.

The toolkit is divided in to the following sections listed below. Please choose a section for specific information and tools that can be found in the toolkit. Some sample tools are provided on this page.
Introduction
This section contains the 2 ASD clinical reports and developmental screening policy statement. It also contains other AAP ASD publications and helpful Web sites.
Identification
This section contains freestanding algorithms for ASD and general developmental screening that can serve as quick references for the clinician. It also includes surveillance and screening tools that are sensitive to ASD for 3 different age groups. No tool is perfect and inclusion of these tools does not imply AAP endorsement; they were chosen because of their easy accessibility and reliability based on current available research.
Referrals
This section provides sample referral forms and letters that can assist the clinician in gaining access to insurance payment for early intervention, educational, and therapeutic services for patients with ASDs.
Physician Fact Sheets
This section provides the clinician with additional informational fact sheets that complement and further explain selected topics addressed in the 2 ASD clinical reports: seizures, sleep, nutrition, gastrointestinal disorders, behavior, education, complementary and alternative medicine, and more. It also contains a form that can be inserted into the child?s clinical record as an age-specific flowchart to guide the clinician through the maze of tests and interventions appropriate for the diagnosis and management of children with ASDs.
Family Handouts
This section contains the greatest number of tools and is especially formatted to help the clinician provide focused information to families when they identify a specific concern or need that emerges throughout the life span. Handouts address early intervention, school interventions, behavioral techniques, vaccines, strategies to prepare children for medical appointments, a form for local emergency medical services, coexisting health conditions, and more (these serve as companions to the Physician Fact Sheets).
