It was submitted in part fulfilment 0f a Masters degree at the University of Birmingham. Now 21 years of age, Magnus has four older sibiings (two brothers and two sisters). Here, Sabine focuses on the effects Magnus has had on their lives by using the diaries she kept, the home—school books and the family video tapes. She describes the demands made on ail the family and their response to these. Her other chiidren ail speak positively of Magnus, whilst acknowledging there are aspects which have caused them distress and sadness. In addition to the positive way in which the family has acted together over the years, Sabine also points out that Icelandic society in general values diversity and accepts difference and that the family has been provided with a good level of support to date, which has made lite easier for them.
