Titre : Autism Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Stuart MURRAY, Auteur Editeur : London, [Angleterre] : Routledge Année de publication : 2011 Collection : The Routledge Series Integrating Science and Culture Importance : 116 p. Présentation : ill Format : 15,2cm x 22,8cm x 1cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-415-88499-0 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : AUT-B AUT-B - L'Autisme - Ouvrages généraux et scientifiques Résumé : Autism is the first book on the condition that seeks to combine medical, historical and cultural approaches to an understanding of the condition. Its purpose is to present a rounded portrayal of the ways in which autism is currently represented in the world, It focuses on three broad areas: the facts of scientific research, including new ideas surrounding research into genetics and neuroscience, as well as the details of diagnosis and therapy; the history of the condition as it developed through psychiatric approaches to the rise of parent associations, neurodiversity and autism advocacy; and the fictional and media narratives through which it is increasingly expressed in the contemporary moment. Accessible and written in clear English, Autism is designed for student audiences in English, Disability Studies, Cultural Studies, History, Sociology, and Medicine and Health, as well as medical practitioners and the general reader. Autism is a condition surrounded by misunderstanding and often defined by contestation and argument. Titre : Autism. An Inside-Out approach : An Innovative Look at the Mechanics of 'Autism'and Its Developmental 'Cousins' Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Donna WILLIAMS, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 1996 Importance : 326 p. Présentation : Index Format : 15,5cm x 23cm x 1,8cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-85302-387-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PAR-A PAR-A - Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : Donna Williams' challenging new book, written by an autistic person for people with autism and related disorders, carers, and the professionals who work with them, is a practical handbook to understanding, living with and working with autism. Exploring autism from the inside, it shows clearly how the behaviours associated with autism can have a range of different causes, and in many cases reflect the autistic person's attempt to gain control over their internal world. The sensory and perceptual problems that challenge a person with autism are described in depth, together with strategies for tackling them so as to enable that person to take more control of their lives. Donna Williams comments on the various approaches to autism, drawing out those strategies that are of real use, and explaining why some approaches may prove counterproductive, leaving the autistic person feeling even more isolated and misunderstood.
Taking the view that understanding autism is the key to managing the condition, Donna Williams' book will bring illumination to all those who have felt baffled and frustrated by the outside appearance of autism. It contains a wealth of helpful suggestions, insights and new ideas, exploding old myths and promoting a view that all those involved with autism will find empowering and creative.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=168 Autism.
