Marion Janner was Director of Learning Difficulties Media which was a project to help people with learning disabilities, and more recently autism, to gain more from the media as consumers, contributors, creators and designers of content. This work is now being taken forward by Mencap (www.mencap.org.uk) and by Bright (www.brightplace.org.uk) The match between television and autism is not always seen in a positive light and previous research has raised concerns which are outlined in this short paper by Marion Janner. the author has approached this subject by considering how television may be used as a learning tool and one in which a more positive interaction between people with an autistic spectrum disorder and television can be established. |
