Increasingly, parents and practitioners are using the Internet to access information and it is important that this is well informed, up to date and easy to find. This paper explores the content and navigability of a sample of local authority websites in England in relation to information provided on the autism spectrum. The topics likely to be of interest to parents/carers are highlighted and the websites examined in relation to this and their compliance to website standards. As expected, the websites vary in quality and user-friendliness and recommendations are made as to what constitutes a good site. This paper is of interest to all those who may submit content to websites as well as to those who access them. This report is based on research carried out for the Autism Education Trust (AET) and the full report can be found on the AET website (www.nas.org.uk). |
