Biofeedback for the Brain / Paul G. SWINGLE
Titre : Biofeedback for the Brain : How Neurotherapy Effectively Treats Depression, ADHD, Autism, and More Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Paul G. SWINGLE, Auteur Editeur : Fredericksburg PA [Etats-Unis] : Rutgers University Press Année de publication : 2008 Importance : 240 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 16cm x 23,5cm x 2cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-8135-4287-4 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : ALT-E ALT-E - Autres Approches - Médiation - Divers Résumé : Neurofeedback is a cutting-edge, drug-free therapeutic technique used by over a thousand licensed therapists in North America to treat a range of conditions from attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders to epilepsy, stroke, anxiety, migraine, and depression. First popularized in the 1970s, this naturalistic method is based on the idea that we can control our brain activity and that, through training, the brain can learn to modify its own electrical patterns for more efficient processing or to overcome various states of dysfunction.
In Biofeedback for the Brain, Dr. Paul G. Swingle describes in clear and coherent language how these procedures work. With numerous actual case examples, readers follow the progress of clients from the initial "brain map" that shows the location and severity of the neurological abnormalities to the various stages of treatment. Conditions often considered untreatable by conventional health practitioners respond positively to neurotherapeutic treatment and Swingle describes many of these remarkable recoveries. Other chapters describe the use of neurotherapy for a variety of surprising purposes, including performance training for elite athletes, of which the most famous example is the Italian soccer team who considered the technique to be their "secret weapon" in attaining a World Cup victory.
Despite wide-ranging success stories and the endorsement of the American Psychological Association, many health care practitioners remain skeptical of neurofeedback and the procedures are still not well-known by the public or conventional health care providers. This book provides a thorough, definitive, and highly readable presentation of this remarkable health care alternative that offers millions of individuals a chance for healing.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=678 Biofeedback for the Brain : How Neurotherapy Effectively Treats Depression, ADHD, Autism, and More [Texte imprimé et/ou numérique] / Paul G. Titre : Boys with Asperger Syndrome Grow Up: Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Disorders 20 Years After Initial Diagnosis Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : I. Carina GILLBERG, Auteur ; Adam HELLES, Auteur ; Eva BILLSTEDT, Auteur ; Christopher GILLBERG, Auteur Année de publication : 2016 Article en page(s) : p.74-82 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism spectrum disorder Asperger syndrome Psychiatric disorder Depression ADHD DCD Schizophrenia Neurodevelopmental Long-term follow-up Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : We examined comorbid psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders in fifty adult males (mean age 30 years) with Asperger syndrome (AS) diagnosed in childhood and followed up prospectively for almost two decades (13–26 years). Only three of the 50 men had never met criteria for an additional psychiatric/neurodevelopmental diagnosis and more than half had ongoing comorbidity (most commonly either ADHD or depression or both). Any psychiatric comorbidity increased the risk of poorer outcome. The minority of the AS group who no longer met criteria for a full diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder were usually free of current psychiatric comorbidity. The high rate of psychiatric/neurodevelopmental comorbidities underscores the need for a full psychiatric/neurodevelopmental assessment at follow-up of males with AS.
