Group Interventions for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders / Albert J. COTUGNO
Titre : Group Interventions for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders : A Focus on Social Competency and Social Skills Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Albert J. COTUGNO, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2009 Importance : 208 p. Format : 27,9cm x 21,6cm x 1,3cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84310-910-5 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : HAB-A HAB-A - Habiletés Sociales - Méthodes et Programmes Résumé : Given the significant core deficits in social interaction and communication that children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) demonstrate, it is critical to understand and develop interventions which directly address these needs.
This book considers the theoretical and practical implications of developing and implementing peer-based, group-focused therapeutic approaches with children on the autism spectrum. Albert Cotugno describes the theoretical underpinnings of an intervention model based on cognitive developmental principles, and explains why a group approach is best suited to address and remediate an ASD child's social deficiencies. Group Interventions for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders shows how to implement skill-based instructional approaches and presents strategies to assess the short- and long-term effectiveness of this type of therapy, both within the group and in external settings.
The book is intended for school, clinic, and general practitioners involved in group work with special needs children, professionals working with ASD children, and anyone interested in using group interventions as a means to treat social competency and social skills deficits.
Dr. Albert J. Cotugno is a clinical and educational psychologist with over 30 years' experience of working with seriously emotionally disturbed, learning and attention disordered, developmentally disabled, and autism spectrum disordered children. He now works in independent private practice in Wellesley, Massachusetts, is Director of Group Programs at Massachusetts General Hospital/YouthCare, and Instructor in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, Boston.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=825 Group Interventions for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders : A Focus on Social Competency and Social Skills [Texte imprimé et/ou numérique] / Albert J. Titre : Making Sense of Social Situations : How to Run a Group-Based Intervention Program for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Albert J. COTUGNO, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2011 Importance : 368 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 17,5cm x 24,6cm x 2,4cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84905-848-3 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : HAB-A HAB-A - Habiletés Sociales - Méthodes et Programmes Résumé : Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) often demonstrate significant deficiencies in social interaction and social communication skills, so it is critical to understand and develop interventions which directly address these needs. This book explores the core areas of ASD development and related deficits, and introduces a practical program to assess and remediate these social competency issues.
This book addresses the primary issues of social development in children with ASD by emphasizing the underlying theoretical and pragmatic considerations. Dr. Cotugno employs concepts and theories of group therapy and cognitive-development and integrates them with skill-based instructional approaches to develop the comprehensive Social Competence Enhancement Program (SCEP). This peer-based, group-focused program is explained in detail, including a step-by-step guide to its implementation and a full range of tasks and activities that can be used by practitioners at each stage of the process.
This book will be a valuable resource for teachers, clinicians and all other professionals working with children with ASD who are interested in using group interventions as a means to improve social competency and treat social skills deficits.

Titre : Social Competence and Social Skills Training and Intervention for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Albert J. COTUGNO, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p.1268-1277 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism-spectrum Social-competency Social-skills Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : This study examined the effectiveness of a 30 week social competence and social skills group intervention program with children, ages 7–11, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Eighteen children with ASD were assessed with pretreatment and posttreatment measures on the Walker-McConnell Scale (WMS) and the MGH YouthCare Social Competence Development Scale. Each received the 30-week intervention program. For comparison, a matched sample of ten non-ASD children was also assessed, but received no treatment. The findings indicated that each ASD intervention group demonstrated significant gains on the WMS and significant improvement in the areas of anxiety management, joint attention, and flexibility/transitions. Results suggest that this approach can be effective in improving core social deficits in individuals with ASD.
