Développement personnel, ISSN 1373-024X Importance : 242 p. Format : 15,5cm x 22,5cm x 1,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-2-8041-7548-1 Note générale : Bibliogr., Webogr.
Titre : Autism and Everyday Executive Function : A Strengths-Based Approach for Improving Attention, Memory, Organization and Flexibility Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Paula MORAINE, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2015 Importance : 160 p. Format : 15,3cm x 23cm x 1cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84905-725-7 Note générale : Bibliogr., Glossaire, Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : APP-D APP-D - Interventions Educatives - Généralités Résumé : Understand and support executive function in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with this fully-explained, innovative model. Showing how to use an individual's strengths to address executive functioning weaknesses, this approach will also help to build a strong foundation for social and communication skills.
Advocating a person-centred approach, the author describes the importance of identifying the individual's preferred style of engagement and communication, and how sensory experiences impact their thoughts, feelings, and actions. She explains how to use this information to identify the individual's strengths and weaknesses across eight key areas which are the building blocks of executive functions: attention; memory; organization; time management; initiative; behavior; goal setting and flexibility. These areas can be used daily to establish predictability and offer a foundation for interpreting, processing and understanding the world with flexibility. Professionals and parents can also use them as the basis of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or to create personalized interventions and support at school or at home. Présentation : ill. Format : 15cm x 23cm x 2,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-937473-00-6 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Catégorisation Index. décimale : PAR-A PAR-A - Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : Despite years of study and advanced technologies, we still do not fully understand how the “typical” brain works, much less how an autistic brain works. And while we have become increasingly familiar with the term autistic thinking, people with autism are still misunderstood, leading to frustration, depression and missed opportunities to reach one’s potential. According to Peter Vermeulen, treatment of autism is still too focused on behavior and minimally focused on observation or determining the way of thinking that leads to the behavior. In this groundbreaking book, inspired by the ideas of Uta Frith, the internationally known psychologist and a pioneer in theory of mind as it relates to autism, Vermeulen explains in everyday terms how the autistic brain functions with a particular emphasis on the apparent lack of sensitivity to and awareness of the context in which things happen. Full of examples, often humorous, the book goes on to examine “context” as it relates to observation, social interactions, communication and knowledge. The book concludes with a major section on how to reduce context blindness in these various areas, vital for successful functioning. Due to the far-reaching consequences of context blindness, this book is a must for those living and working with somebody with autism. The toolkit is divided in to the following sections listed below. Please choose a section for specific information and tools that can be found in the toolkit. Some sample tools are provided on this page.
Introduction
This section contains the 2 ASD clinical reports and developmental screening policy statement. It also contains other AAP ASD publications and helpful Web sites.
Identification
This section contains freestanding algorithms for ASD and general developmental screening that can serve as quick references for the clinician. It also includes surveillance and screening tools that are sensitive to ASD for 3 different age groups. No tool is perfect and inclusion of these tools does not imply AAP endorsement; they were chosen because of their easy accessibility and reliability based on current available research.
Referrals
This section provides sample referral forms and letters that can assist the clinician in gaining access to insurance payment for early intervention, educational, and therapeutic services for patients with ASDs.
Physician Fact Sheets
This section provides the clinician with additional informational fact sheets that complement and further explain selected topics addressed in the 2 ASD clinical reports: seizures, sleep, nutrition, gastrointestinal disorders, behavior, education, complementary and alternative medicine, and more. It also contains a form that can be inserted into the child?s clinical record as an age-specific flowchart to guide the clinician through the maze of tests and interventions appropriate for the diagnosis and management of children with ASDs.
Family Handouts
This section contains the greatest number of tools and is especially formatted to help the clinician provide focused information to families when they identify a specific concern or need that emerges throughout the life span. Handouts address early intervention, school interventions, behavioral techniques, vaccines, strategies to prepare children for medical appointments, a form for local emergency medical services, coexisting health conditions, and more (these serve as companions to the Physician Fact Sheets).
