Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Neurofeedback Index. décimale : AUT-F AUT-F - L'Autisme - Soins Résumé : Despite increased awareness about autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and its acknowledged increased prevalence in the USA and worldwide, there is relatively little translational information available that links core pathological findings to pathophysiological mechanisms that could be targeted by novel therapeutic interventions. This book describes some of the standard methods for diagnosing and treating autism from the perspectives of pediatric clinical psychology and developmental-behavioral specialists. Furthermore, the book reviews the theoretical basis for research focusing on neuromodulation techniques, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), neurofeedback, and sensory integration training methods, being used for the treatment of ASD. The result is a collective monograph of 16 chapters contributed by autism specialists and edited by Estate (Tato) Sokhadze, Ph.D. and Manuel F. Casanova, M.D. This is a softcover book, with 34 figures and 10 tables whose cover illustration, features a painting by a famous autistic artist. The book is intended for students, researchers, and healthcare practitioners who are interested in the best ways to introduce neuromodulation, neurofeedback, and sensory integration techniques as interventions in their treatment armamentarium of autism spectrum disorder. Titre : Autism spectrum disorders in Hispanics and non-Hispanics Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Virginia CHAIDEZ, Auteur ; David J. HANSEN, Auteur ; Irva HERTZ-PICCIOTTO, Auteur Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : p.381-397 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Objectives To compare differences in autism between Hispanic and non-Hispanics. We also examined the relationship between multiple language exposure and language function and scores of children. Methods The Childhood Autism Risks from Genetics and the Environment (CHARGE) study is an ongoing population-based case-control study with children sampled (n=1061) from three strata: those with autism (AU) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD); developmental delay (DD); or the general population (GP).Results Non-Hispanic cases demonstrated higher cognitive composite scores for the Mullen Scales of Early Learning (MSEL). There were significant associations between multiple language exposure and MSEL subscales for receptive language and expressive language, in both cases (AU/ASD) and TD controls, but not DD controls. Results of multivariate regression analyses suggest several predictors to be associated with lower Mullen expressive language scores including: diagnosis of ASD/AU, speaking to the child in a second language 25-50% of the time and Hispanic ethnicity; while maternal college education was associated with higher scores. Conclusion Overall, the CHARGE Hispanic group displayed more similarities than differences compared to non-Hispanics in terms of autistic phenotypes and maladaptive & adaptive scores for cases. The relationship between multiple language use and cognitive scores warrants a closer look. Titre : Autism Spectrum Disorders Through the Life Span Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Digby TANTAM, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2012 Importance : 550 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84905-344-0 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : AUT-E AUT-E - L'Autisme - Accompagnement et Qualité de Vie Résumé : This professional text covers every aspect of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), from science to services, from the most disabling Kanner's syndrome to the most high-functioning Asperger syndrome, and from birth to old age.
The book contains the latest research on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, intervention and support of individuals with ASD, and examines their implications at various stages of life. A wide range of neurological, genetic, psychological, developmental, social, and emotional issues are covered, and the author also includes less accessible information on the diagnosis and treatment of associated psychiatric and medical conditions, the overlap between the ASDs and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and the management of behavioural and forensic problems. The author does not presume existing technical knowledge and the background to new methods of assessment, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging, standardized clinical and psychological assessment, and genetic testing, is explained.
This book will be an indispensable primary resource for paediatricians, psychiatrists, clinical and educational psychologists, specialist nurses, counsellors, psychotherapists, legal professionals and others working with individuals of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. It will also be of interest to any carers and people with an ASD who want to know about the up to date research into the causes and treatment of the disorder.
