Titre : Asperger's syndrome and the criminal justice system Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : David ALLEN, Auteur ; Helen PECKETT, Auteur ; Carys EVANS, Auteur ; Andrew HIDER, Auteur ; Hayley REES, Auteur ; Sarah HAWKINS, Auteur ; Hugh MORGAN, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p.35-42 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : There as been considerable publicity in recent years concerning people with Asperger's syndrome who come into contact with the criminal justice system. High profile cases reported in the media may have given an impression that there is an association between Asperger's syndrome and the crimninal justice system. Is this association real or imagined and what does the available evidence tell us? This paper attempts to seek out and draw together what evidence exists from across the world by looking specifically at forensic, experimental, prevalence and community-based studies. It suggests why those with ASD might be involved or suspected of an offence and makes recommandations as to how they might be understood and supported by the police and the criminal justice system. Titre : Maternal experience of Lego Therapy in families with children with autism spectrum conditions: What is the impact on family relationships? Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Helen PECKETT, Auteur ; Fiona MACCALLUM, Auteur ; Jacky KNIBBS, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.879-887 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : autism spectrum Lego Therapy social skills interventions Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : This study aimed to explore mothers’ experience of implementing Lego Therapy at home within the family. Following a Lego Therapy training session, mothers carried out hourly sessions with their child with an autism spectrum condition and the child’s sibling, once a week, for 6?weeks. Mothers were interviewed following the intervention, and the data were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Themes emerged around improved family relationships, a positive impact on the child as an individual, and changed maternal, sibling and child perspectives. Challenging and facilitative aspects also emerged, as did some ambivalence about the impact of the intervention in the wider context. The findings are supportive of previous Lego Therapy studies and have implications for strengths-based service provision. A survey methodology that utilised quantitative data collection was employed to investigate the prevalence of offending behaviour amongst adults with Asperger Syndrome in a large geographical area of South Wales, UK; qualitative interviews were then conducted with a sub-sample of those identified. A small number of participants meeting the study criteria were identified. For those who had offended, their experience of the criminal justice system was essentially negative. Possible implications of the results were discussed.
