Titre : Dissociated visual development: electrodiagnostic studies in infants who are 'slow to see' Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : David H. MELLOR, Auteur ; Alistair R. FIELDER, Auteur Année de publication : 1980 Article en page(s) : p.327-335 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Four infants were studied who failed to show any visual interest or following responses in the first three months of life. Although no definite ocular abnormalities were found at the time of presentation, both the parents and their medical advisers initially had serious concerns about the infants' visual prognosis. Initial electroretinograms (ERG) were found to be unequivocally normal, but three of the infants showed absent or impaired cortical visual evoked responses (VER). The fourth infant had an initial VER which was immature. Subsequently, all the infants showed increasing visual responsiveness from three to four months of age and all now have visual behaviour and general development appropriate to their ages. The VERs were repeated after four months of age and all showed normal responses. It is concluded that poor or even absent VER responses in early infancy may not always indicate a poor prognosis for vision. The possible mechanisms of this visual maturational lag are discussed.
Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=135

Titre : Interparent Agreement on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire: A Chinese Study Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : David H. MELLOR, Auteur ; Jessica WONG, Auteur ; Xiaoyan XU, Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : p.890-896 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : This article reports on the first study to investigate interparent agreement when the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is used to assess school-aged children. It is also the first study conducted in China on agreement between parents reporting on their child. Both parents of 380 girls and 320 boys completed the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (Chinese version). Because reliabilities were poor, the Conduct Problems and Hyperactivity/Inattention subscales were merged to form an Externalizing Problems subscale, and the Peer Problems subscale as an independent variable was omitted from analyses. Consistent with past research, moderate to strong correlations were found between mother and father reports for emotional and behavioral problems, although interparent agreement was better for externalizing problems than internalizing problems for both girls and boys. Mothers reported significantly higher scores than fathers for prosocial behaviors for their sons. Findings suggest that, in general, one parent's report will be similar to the other's when the SDQ is used in the form adapted for this study. More work on the psychometric properties of the SDQ is needed in China. Titre : Two half-siblings with tuberous sclerosis, polycystic kidneys and hypertension Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : J. M. MICHEL, Auteur ; David H. MELLOR, Auteur ; J. H. DIGGLE, Auteur ; J. BRICE, Auteur ; P. SMALL, Auteur Année de publication : 1983 Article en page(s) : p.239-244 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Two half-brothers with tuberous sclerosis (TS) presented with polycystic kidneys in early childhood, before the classical stigmata became apparent. Their father shows no evidence of the disease. The older boys subsequently developed adenoma sebaceum at nine years and the younger boy developed infantile spasms. Hypertension occurred in both cases but neither showed evidence of renal failure. Extensive renal cyst formation in TS is rare, but when it does occur it differs from both infantile and adult-type polycystic disease. TS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of renal enlargement, haematuria and hypertension in childhood.
