Titre : Sex moderates the association between self-reported autism and cognitive reflection Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Laurent BEGUE, Auteur ; Ingrid TIEN, Auteur ; Thomas Ylla SOMERS, Auteur ; Adeline LACROIX, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.203010 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Background This study investigated the neurocognitive profile of individuals with self-reported autism within a massive cohort of 50,002 university students and examined the propensity for analytic reasoning and introducing relevant multivariate controls. Methods Participants completed the Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) alongside measures of self-reported autism and ADHD status, psychological distress, and challenges with impulse control. Results The data highlighted a substantial Autism-ADHD co-occurrence rate of 56.2%, and higher self-reported autism prevalence among females (2.3%) than males (1.8%). After adjusting for demographic factors and psychological co-occurring conditions through multivariate regression, the results revealed an interaction between autism and sex showing that a higher performance of autistic individuals on CRT was observed among females, while there was no significant difference among males. While the observed effect size is modest, these findings provide evidence of a distinct cognitive style oriented toward logical, rule-based processing in female autistic populations attending higher education. Conclusion These results emphasize the importance of considering cognitive diversity, sex and the interplay of emotional and executive factors when assessing the academic and intellectual potential of autistic students. Titre : Visualizing sex differences in school aged youth on the ADOS-2 using a latent space item response model Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ingrid TIEN, Auteur ; Jevan LUO, Auteur ; Yingshi HUANG, Auteur ; Minjeong JEON, Auteur Article en page(s) : 202948 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Sex differences Diagnosis Diagnostic disparities Assessment Psychometrics Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Background Examinations of measurement invariance on the ADOS-2 have demonstrated instrumental bias and differential performance for males. This is unsurprising, considering the female phenotype for autism measures was rarely represented in original samples. However, an examination of which items on the ADOS-2 females are more likely to endorse and are most representative of autistic difficulties for females has not been examined. Methods Using NDAR, a novel latent space items response model (LSIRM, Jeon et al., 2021) was employed to identify patterns in responses to visualize sex differences in the latent structure of the ADOS-2, representing several different phenotypic profiles. Results Overall, the scores for females were lower and clustered around social communicative difficulties (SCD). Males exhibited several distinct phenotypic profiles. Conclusion These findings allow for visualization of how items performs via clusters of individuals’ endorsement ability. These findings potentially drive specific item-level examinations and suggest changed weighting and scoring mechanisms.
