Présentation : ill. Format : 24cm x 16cm x 2,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-60327-488-3 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Cholesterole Serotonine Excitotoxicité Neurotransmetteurs Testosterone Insuline Systeme immunitaire; Index. décimale : AUT-B AUT-B - L'Autisme - Ouvrages généraux et scientifiques Résumé : Creative thinking and collaborative scientific research have advanced our understanding of autism and we are now beginning to synthesize the data into evidence and theories. Autism: Current Theories and Evidence presents current theories about autism and the evidence that supports them. The goal is to show how the scientific method is revealing the biological bases of this spectrum of disorders, thereby leading the way to their treatment and prevention using evidence-based medicine. This book has 20 chapters divided into 6 sections: Molecular and Clinical Genetics; Neurotransmitters and Cell Signaling; Endocrinology, Growth and Metabolism; Immunology, Maternal-Fetal Effects and Neuroinflammation; Neuroanatomy, Imaging and Neural networks; and Environmental Mechanisms and Models. The subjects cover a wide range of current scientific work in the field of autism, with strong and growing evidence to support them, and demonstrate both the breadth and depth of current autism research. The reader is encouraged to consider how theories and the scientific method, in the hands of these and other dedicated researchers, are leading to greater knowledge and continued progress in autism research. Titre : Boys with Asperger Syndrome Grow Up: Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Disorders 20 Years After Initial Diagnosis Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : I. Carina GILLBERG, Auteur ; Adam HELLES, Auteur ; Eva BILLSTEDT, Auteur ; Christopher GILLBERG, Auteur Année de publication : 2016 Article en page(s) : p.74-82 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism spectrum disorder Asperger syndrome Psychiatric disorder Depression ADHD DCD Schizophrenia Neurodevelopmental Long-term follow-up Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : We examined comorbid psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders in fifty adult males (mean age 30 years) with Asperger syndrome (AS) diagnosed in childhood and followed up prospectively for almost two decades (13–26 years). Only three of the 50 men had never met criteria for an additional psychiatric/neurodevelopmental diagnosis and more than half had ongoing comorbidity (most commonly either ADHD or depression or both). Any psychiatric comorbidity increased the risk of poorer outcome. The minority of the AS group who no longer met criteria for a full diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder were usually free of current psychiatric comorbidity. The high rate of psychiatric/neurodevelopmental comorbidities underscores the need for a full psychiatric/neurodevelopmental assessment at follow-up of males with AS. WHISHAW, Auteur ; Jean Christophe CASSEL, Traducteur Mention d'édition : 2ème ed.
