Autism is not a single disease entity but rather a syndrome of different diseases. Some of these diseases were discovered in studying patients with autism; others are a subgroup of cases within an already established disease such as tuberous sclerosis. Many of these diseases are genetic, and the book give up-to-date information on what is known about molecular biology and autism.
