Cygnet is a parenting intervention which aims to help parents address these difficulties, consequently improving parenting confidence. It is widely used in the United Kingdom (UK). Despite this, there have been few evaluations. This paper reports a small-scale pragmatic evaluation of Cygnet as it was routinely delivered in two English cities. A non-randomised controlled study of outcomes for parents (and their children) was conducted. Data regarding intervention fidelity and delivery costs were also collected. Parents either attending, or waiting to attend, Cygnet were recruited (intervention group: IG, n = 35; comparator group: CG, n = 32). Parents completed standardised measures of child behaviour and parenting sense of competence pre- and post-intervention, and at three-month follow-up (matched time points for CG). Longer-term outcomes were measured for the IG. IG parents also set specific child behaviour goals. Typically, the programme was delivered as specified by the manual. Attending Cygnet was associated with significant improvements in parenting satisfaction and the specific child behaviour goals. Findings regarding other outcomes were equivocal and further evaluation is required. We conclude that Cygnet is a promising intervention for parents of children with autism in terms of, at least, some outcomes. We analyzed detection rates, reaction times, and the event-related potential components dN150, N1, P2, N2, and P3 for each group. RESULTS: Behavioral results suggest slower and less correct responses to atypical compared to typical images. This typicality effect was larger for the category with less distinct boundaries (food) and observed in both groups. However, electrophysiological data indicate a different time course of typicality effects, suggesting that neurotypical adults categorize atypical images based on simple features (P2), whereas cognitively able autistic adults categorize later, based on arbitrary features of atypical images (P3). CONCLUSIONS: We found evidence that all three factors under investigation - category, typicality, and presentation time - modulated specific aspects of semantic categorization. Additionally, we observed a qualitatively different pattern in the autistic adults, which suggests that they relied on different cognitive processes to complete the task. Within the online gaming community, there is a high proportion of autistic players. The aim of this review is to understand the experiences of autistic individuals who engage in MOG activity. A qualitative systematic review was conducted across five databases: PsychINFO, Medline, CINAHL, ACM Digital Library, and Web of Science. An additional search on Google Scholar was conducted to screen for grey literature. This resulted in 12 studies being identified for inclusion. Studies were synthesised using a meta-ethnographic approach. The review highlighted that MOGs provide opportunities for players to interact in a way that feels less pressured than the face-to-face world. This has positive implications for developing social skills and forming relationships with others. Additionally, players learn a variety of skills that contribute to increased self-esteem and improved psychological wellbeing. It is hoped that the findings from this review could be used clinically to help mental health professionals think about how such activities can benefit autistic individuals and also how they might adapt the way they work to be more suitable for this population.
