Titre : Analogical reasoning in autism. A systematic review and meta-analysis Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Kinga MORSANYI, Auteur ; Dušan STAMENKOVIC, Auteur ; Keith J. HOLYOAK, Auteur Année de publication : 2019 Importance : p.59-87 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PAR-A Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : This chapter provides a brief overview of analogical reasoning, first in the typically developing population and then in the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population. Many studies of analogical reasoning have used variations of a mapping task, which requires the participant to identify correspondences between specific objects in the source and target. Instructions sometimes specify that a relational match is to be sought, but may instead leave the match criterion relatively vague. The chapter presents a systematic review of empirical investigations of analogical reasoning in autism, including studies that assessed performance on J. C. Raven’s matrices. The spared analogical abilities observed in ASD also suggest refinements in models of autistic functioning. On the face of it, solving problems of the type exemplified by Raven’s matrices requires attention to visuospatial relations between geometrical forms and also requires integration of constraints provided by multiple relations.
- Paris [France] : Seuil, 2003 . - 460 p. ; 10,9cm x 17,9cm x 2,0cm. - (Points. Titre : Autism. An Inside-Out approach : An Innovative Look at the Mechanics of 'Autism'and Its Developmental 'Cousins' Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Donna WILLIAMS, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 1996 Importance : 326 p. Présentation : Index Format : 15,5cm x 23cm x 1,8cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-85302-387-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PAR-A Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : Donna Williams' challenging new book, written by an autistic person for people with autism and related disorders, carers, and the professionals who work with them, is a practical handbook to understanding, living with and working with autism. Exploring autism from the inside, it shows clearly how the behaviours associated with autism can have a range of different causes, and in many cases reflect the autistic person's attempt to gain control over their internal world. The sensory and perceptual problems that challenge a person with autism are described in depth, together with strategies for tackling them so as to enable that person to take more control of their lives. Donna Williams comments on the various approaches to autism, drawing out those strategies that are of real use, and explaining why some approaches may prove counterproductive, leaving the autistic person feeling even more isolated and misunderstood.
Taking the view that understanding autism is the key to managing the condition, Donna Williams' book will bring illumination to all those who have felt baffled and frustrated by the outside appearance of autism. It contains a wealth of helpful suggestions, insights and new ideas, exploding old myths and promoting a view that all those involved with autism will find empowering and creative.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=168 Autism. Titre : Autism and Spirituality : Psyche, Self and Spirit in People on the Autism Spectrum Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Olga BOGDASHINA, Auteur ; Christine TREVETT, Auteur ; Larry CULLIFORD, Auteur ; Nancy GETTY, Auteur de la postface, du colophon, etc. Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2013 Importance : 272 p. Format : 23,4cm x 15,6cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84905-285-6 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PAR-A Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : Olga Bogdashina argues persuasively that, contrary to popular belief, spirituality plays a vital role in the lives of many people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
Drawing on interdisciplinary research from fields as diverse as psychology, philosophy, anthropology, linguistics, neuroscience and religion, as well as first-hand experiences of people on the spectrum, she shows how people with ASD experience their inner worlds and sense of self, and how this shapes the spiritual dimension of their lives and vice versa. She presents a coherent framework for understanding the routes of spiritual development and 'spiritual giftedness' within this group, offering insights that will inform understanding of how to support and nurture spiritual wellbeing in people with ASDs.
This book gives a voice to both verbal and non-verbal individuals on the autism spectrum whose spiritual experiences, though often unconventional, are meaningful and profound. It is essential reading for all those interested in the spiritual wellbeing of this group, including pastoral carers and counsellors, ministers of religion, spiritual leaders, parents and carers and individuals on the autism spectrum. Titre : Autism as Context Blindness Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Peter VERMEULEN, Auteur ; Brenda SMITH MYLES, Préfacier, etc. Editeur : Shawnee Mission KS [Etats-Unis] : Autism Asperger Publishing Company - AAPC Année de publication : 2012 Importance : 421 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 15cm x 23cm x 2,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-937473-00-6 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Catégorisation Index. décimale : PAR-A Fonctionnement Autistique Résumé : Despite years of study and advanced technologies, we still do not fully understand how the “typical” brain works, much less how an autistic brain works. And while we have become increasingly familiar with the term autistic thinking, people with autism are still misunderstood, leading to frustration, depression and missed opportunities to reach one’s potential. According to Peter Vermeulen, treatment of autism is still too focused on behavior and minimally focused on observation or determining the way of thinking that leads to the behavior. In this groundbreaking book, inspired by the ideas of Uta Frith, the internationally known psychologist and a pioneer in theory of mind as it relates to autism, Vermeulen explains in everyday terms how the autistic brain functions with a particular emphasis on the apparent lack of sensitivity to and awareness of the context in which things happen. Full of examples, often humorous, the book goes on to examine “context” as it relates to observation, social interactions, communication and knowledge. The book concludes with a major section on how to reduce context blindness in these various areas, vital for successful functioning. Due to the far-reaching consequences of context blindness, this book is a must for those living and working with somebody with autism.
