Titre : The Complete Guide to Getting a Job for People with Asperger's Syndrome : Find the Right Career and Get Hired Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Barbara BISSONNETTE, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2012 Importance : 200 p. Format : 24,6cm x 17,3cm x 1,2cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84905-921-3 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : ASP-G ASP-G - Asperger - Emploi Résumé : Finding a job is a confusing and anxiety-provoking process for many individuals with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) who may not know what they are qualified to do and may struggle to communicate their value to employers. In this book, Asperger's employment expert Barbara Bissonnette describes exactly what it takes to get hired in the neurotypical workplace.
Every aspect of finding employment is covered, from defining strengths and researching occupations, to marketing oneself and projecting confidence and enthusiasm in interviews. Job-hunters are taught how to develop a personal profile of their talents and skills, their ideal work environment, and important work criteria. They are then shown how to set realistic goals and develop an effective job search plan. There is detailed instruction on networking, including how to find contacts and what to say. A wealth of checklists, templates, sample scripts and written communications accompany the text.
Upfront, engaging and highly practical, this will be an essential guide for individuals with AS entering the workforce for the first time, as well as experienced workers who have lost jobs or wish to change careers but are uncertain about how to find the best match for their abilities. Titre : The effect of diagnostic labels on the affective responses of college students towards peers with ‘Asperger’s Syndrome’ and ‘Autism Spectrum Disorder’ Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Mark BROSNAN, Auteur ; Elizabeth MILLS, Auteur Année de publication : 2016 Article en page(s) : p.388-394 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : affective response Asperger’s Syndrome autism spectrum disorder label Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Given the removal of Asperger’s Syndrome label in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders–Fifth Edition, the impact of clinical labels upon the affective responses of college students was explored. A total of 120 college students read two vignettes depicting social interactions typical of a person with autism spectrum disorder. In one vignette, they were informed that the character was a typical college student and in the other, the character had a clinical disorder (either autism spectrum disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome or Schizophrenia). Participants’ affective responses were measured on the Positive and Negative Affect Scale. No significant differences in positive and negative affective responses were found between the clinical labels. However, affective responses were significantly more positive and less negative towards behaviours associated with clinical groups compared to the typical college student. The implications for students disclosing their diagnosis at university are discussed. Titre : The FRIEND® Program for Creating Supportive Peer Networks for Students with Social Challenges, including Autism Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Sharman OBER-REYNOLDS, Auteur ; Christopher J. SMITH, Auteur ; Lori VINCENT, Auteur ; Holly SOKOL, Auteur ; Sheri S. DOLLIN, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2019 Importance : 221 p. Format : 15,3cm x 22,6cm x 1,2cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-78592-627-3 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : APP-D APP-D - Interventions Educatives - Généralités Résumé : FRIEND is a social, communication and play-based program to help school-aged children with social challenges. All students deserve a positive school experience where they can reach their social and academic potential. However, this can prove difficult for students with challenges such as attention deficit, anxiety, or autism spectrum disorders, who may struggle daily with social situations. This manual provides everything educators need to support these students with their social skills in everyday situations, throughout their school years.
This program is designed to help any student with social challenges, no matter how subtle. For students without social challenges, it teaches tolerance, acceptance and understanding. The characteristics of successful social skills programs are described, with an emphasis on how FRIEND implements them through three key components: the Peer Sensitivity Curriculum, the FRIEND Lunch Program and the FRIEND Playground Program. These can be implemented individually or in any combination as a comprehensive program. Parents and family are offered information on working together with schools and implementing FRIEND strategies at home and in the community.
Emphasizing peer sensitivity, education and a supportive environment, FRIEND is for any educator wanting to create an inclusive and safe atmosphere for students to learn social skill-building strategies.
