Reliability of the Participation and Sensory Environment Questionnaire: Teacher Version / A. PILLER in Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 47-11 (November 2017)

Titre : Reliability of the Participation and Sensory Environment Questionnaire: Teacher Version Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : A. PILLER, Auteur ; T. FLETCHER, Auteur ; B. PFEIFFER, Auteur ; K. DUNLAP, Auteur ; N. PICKENS, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.3541-3549 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Environment Participation Reliability Sensory Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The Participation and Sensory Environment Questionnaire-Teacher Version (PSEQ-TV) is a teacher-report questionnaire to assess the impact of the sensory environment on participation of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Many children with ASD have sensory processing differences, although these differences are frequently examined from the standpoint of the person. The PSEQ-TV provides a single assessment to examine both participation and the sensory environment for preschool aged children with ASD. This study established the reliability of the PSEQ-TV including internal consistency of 0.98 and test-rest reliability of 0.70. The results indicate initial reliability of PSEQ-TV as an instrument that can be used to identify sensory environmental barriers within the preschool setting to target during interventions to increase participation. Titre : Religion priming and an oxytocin receptor gene (OXTR) polymorphism interact to affect self-control in a social context Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Joni Y. SASAKI, Auteur ; Taraneh MOJAVERIAN, Auteur ; Heejung S. KIM, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.97-109 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Using a genetic moderation approach, this study examines how an experimental prime of religion impacts self-control in a social context, and whether this effect differs depending on the genotype of an oxytocin receptor gene (OXTR) polymorphism (rs53576). People with different genotypes of OXTR seem to have different genetic orientations toward sociality, which may have consequences for the way they respond to religious cues in the environment. In order to determine whether the influence of religion priming on self-control is socially motivated, we examine whether this effect is stronger for people who have OXTR genotypes that should be linked to greater rather than less social sensitivity (i.e., GG vs. AA/AG genotypes). The results showed that experimentally priming religion increased self-control behaviors for people with GG genotypes more so than people with AA/AG genotypes. Furthermore, this Gene × Religion interaction emerged in a social context, when people were interacting face to face with another person. This research integrates genetic moderation and social psychological approaches to address a novel question about religion's influence on self-control behavior, which has implications for coping with distress and psychopathology. These findings also highlight the importance of the social context for understanding genetic moderation of psychological effects. V. EKAS, Auteur ; L. TIDMAN, Auteur ; L. TIMMONS, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.4547-4558 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism spectrum disorder Mental health Mothers Religion Spirituality Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : This study examines associations between dimensions of religiosity/spirituality (R/S) and anxiety symptoms in mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Mothers' positive ways of thinking and romantic relationship satisfaction were examined as mediators of associations. The extent to which child ASD symptom severity and maternal broad autism phenotype (BAP) behaviors predicted interactions with religious community members was also examined. Seventy-three Christian mothers of a child with ASD completed online surveys. Higher levels of spirituality were associated with viewing their child with ASD as providing a positive contribution to the family. These positive views were, in turn, associated with less anxiety symptoms. Mothers of children with more severe ASD symptoms also reported greater negative interactions with members of their congregation. Titre : Religiosity, Spirituality, and Socioemotional Functioning in Mothers of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Naomi V. EKAS, Auteur ; Thomas L. WHITMAN, Auteur ; Carolyn M. SHIVERS, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p.706-719 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism Parenting-stress Social-support Religiosity Socioemotional-functioning Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Religious beliefs, religious activities, and spirituality are coping resources used by many mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study examined whether and how these resources were related to maternal socioemotional functioning. Mothers of children with ASD completed questionnaires assessing religiosity, spirituality, and a wide range of outcome variables, including stress, depression, self-esteem, life satisfaction, positive affect, and sense of control. Analyses revealed that religious beliefs and spirituality were associated with better positive outcomes and, to a lesser extent, lower levels of negative outcomes. Of the two predictors, spirituality accounted for more unique variance in positive outcomes. In contrast, religious activities were related to more negative outcomes and lower levels of positive outcomes.
