Titre : Correlates of Attachment Perceptions in Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Sabrina J. GOODMAN, Auteur ; David S. GLENWICK, Auteur Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : p.2056-2066 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism spectrum disorders Attachment Parenting stress Parent cognitions Parent perceptions Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : This study explored the relationship between parents’ perceptions of their child’s attachment to them and parents’ own affective attachment to their child, as well the relationship of these constructs to parenting stress, parent-rated child functional impairment, and parenting sense of competence. Mothers (n = 76) and fathers (n = 30) of children ages 2–10 with autism spectrum disorders participated. Overall, parents’ affective attachment to their child was more consistently related to other aspects of their parenting experiences than were their perceptions of their child’s attachment to them. Also, perceptions of child-to-parent attachment were related to other aspects of parenting for fathers more than for mothers. Implications for parenting interventions and future research, such as longitudinal investigations, are discussed. Titre : Counselling People on the Autism Spectrum : A Practical Manual Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Katherine PAXTON, Auteur ; Irene A. ESTAY, Auteur Editeur : Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers Année de publication : 2007 Importance : 207 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 15,5cm x 23,3cmx 1,2cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84310-552-7 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Gestion de la colère Index. décimale : AUT-E AUT-E - L'Autisme - Accompagnement et Qualité de Vie Résumé : The characteristics of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) present unique challenges, not only to people themselves affected, but also to counselling professionals. This manual provides counselling techniques that work not only for professionals, but also for individuals either coping with being on the spectrum themselves, or living with someone who has an ASD.
Regardless of intellectual and linguistic ability, people on the autism spectrum often have significant impairments in emotional expression, regulation, and recognition, and they are known to have higher rates of depression and anxiety than the general population. This comprehensive book shows how to develop the tools necessary to help people on the spectrum cope with their emotions, anxieties, and confusion about the often overwhelming world that surrounds them. Illustrated with useful case studies, it covers a range situations where counselling may be helpful for individuals with ASD, both children and adults, families where a member is on the spectrum, and couples where a partner has ASD. It also addresses specific issues, including depression, anxiety, emotional regulation, social skills, and stress, with effective strategies for dealing with each issue.
As well as being indispensable for counsellors, this book provides valuable information and advice for anyone working with people and families affected by ASDs.
Katherine Paxton has supported people with cognitive and physical disabilities for over 25 years, with a focus on autism spectrum disorders for more than half of that. As a consultant and counsellor, Katherine has provided services to families, individuals, employers, and schools impacted by autism spectrum disorders. Katherine has been researching autism spectrum disorders for over ten years, leading to her master's project for the Campus Alberta Applied Psychology Program, which has resulted in the creation of this manual.
Irene A. Estay has been a practicing Psychologist in the field of Counselling and Rehabilitation for the past thirty years. She is a university professor at the University of Calgary, Campus Alberta Graduate Program in Counselling and at Phoenix University. Dr. Estay is also Seminar Facilitator, Motivational Speaker and a Consultant for Agencies providing counselling and rehabilitative services in the Province of Alberta.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=221 Counselling People on the Autism Spectrum : A Practical Manual [Texte imprimé et/ou numérique] / Katherine PAXTON, Auteur ; Irene A.
