Talk With Me / Kerry MATAYA
Titre : Talk With Me : A Step-By-Step Conversation Framework for Teaching Conversational Balance and Fluency Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Kerry MATAYA, Auteur ; Ruth ASPY, Auteur ; Hollis SHAFFER, Auteur Editeur : Shawnee Mission KS [Etats-Unis] : Autism Asperger Publishing Company - AAPC Année de publication : 2017 Importance : 195 p. Format : 21,6 cm × 28,0 cm × 1,1 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-942197-32-4 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : HAB-A HAB-A - Habiletés Sociales - Méthodes et Programmes Résumé : Conversation is everywhere - at the lunch table, at after-school activities, in the line for the water fountain, at overnight camp during downtime, at work with a coworker, at a holiday gathering. It is challenging for many individuals with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (HF-ASD), children and adults alike. For this reasons, it is essential to equip individuals with ASD with effective conversational skills.
The Conversation Framework is a unique strategy that provides an approach to effectively assessing and teaching conversation skills in a group setting. The overall goal is to provide concrete steps for teaching conversation that promote retention of skills and natural conversation in a wide range of settings with a variety of people. The framework was developed and refined over many years based on a review of relevant research and close observations of how people speak to each other.
Many teachers find it difficult to teach communication skills, but the Conversation Framework provides a simple and easy-to-implement process for teaching effective conversational habits. The rules presented in this book are specific enough to equip an individual with HF-ASD with the tools necessary to acquire conversation skills, yet simple enough to be used at any age. If you're looking for a comprehensive,.model with assessments, data collection, visual supports, drills, and prompt examples, this is your book ! Titre : TDA/H.
Titre : Teaching children with autism to detect and respond to sarcasm Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Angela PERSICKE, Auteur ; Jonathan TARBOX, Auteur ; Jennifer RANICK, Auteur ; Megan SAINT CLAIR, Auteur Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : p.193–198 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Sarcasm Irony Multiple exemplar training Relational frame theory Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Previous research has demonstrated that children with autism often have difficulty using and understanding non-literal language (e.g., irony, sarcasm, deception, humor, and metaphors). Irony and sarcasm may be especially difficult for children with autism because the meaning of an utterance is the opposite of what is stated. The current study evaluated the effectiveness of a training package, including rules and in vivo multiple exemplar training, to teach three children with autism to detect and respond appropriately to sarcastic statements. The training package was effective and generalization was obtained across novel exemplars, settings, and people. Most children with autism or other developmental disabilities experience severe language delays or disorders. Teaching language to these children can be quite a challenge to parents and professionals. This book presents a state-of-the-art language assessment and intervention program based on B.F. Skinner's behavioral analysis of language, and the extensive body of empirical research that supports Skinner's analysis.
The first section of the book provides information regarding preparation for language intervention, including a brief language assessment and a system to interpret the assessment in order to determine the best place to start intervention for an individual child. Section One also contains a chapter on augmentative communication and information on how to decide if it is necessary; and if so, which type might be the best for an individual child. Section Two focuses on the development of initial communication skills for nonverbal children, and Section Three focuses on teaching more advanced language and social skills. Section Four presents issues relevant to the implementation of a language program in a child's natural and school environments. In addition, there are a variety of data sheets and skills tracking forms located throughout the book.
