Reaching and Teaching Children with Autism provides a positive approach to understanding and educating children on the autism spectrum. The book gives greater insight into the perspective and behavior of a child with autism and explores how the child's learning preferences, strengths and interests can be used to facilitate learning and enhance motivation.
Based on well-researched theory and extensive clinical experience, the author provides a comprehensive model for developing lifelong independent learning skills in children with autism between the ages of 3 and 12 years old. The book describes the underlying principles, learning preferences and strengths typical of children with autism and offers a detailed but flexible program structure based on these concepts. Easy to follow activities and approaches are described in each chapter, along with clear examples and illustrations.
This accessible and practical book is an essential resource for parents, teachers, support workers, therapists and others concerned with learning and development in children with autism.Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=720 Reaching and Teaching the Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder : Using Learning Preferences and Strengths [Texte imprimé et/ou numérique] / Heather MACKENZIE, Auteur . - Londres [Angleterre] : Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2008 . - 272 p. : ill. ; 24,6cm x 17,3xm x 1,7cm.

RAY-SUBRAMANIAN, Auteur ; Susan Ellis WEISMER, Auteur Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : p.2113-2120 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRBs) Language Autism Nonverbal cognitive skills Toddlers Preschoolers Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : This study examined whether language skills and nonverbal cognitive skills were associated with clinician-observed restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRBs) in a sample of 115 children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) at ages 2 and 3. By age 3, RRBs were significantly negatively correlated with receptive and expressive language, as well as nonverbal cognitive skills. Increases in receptive and expressive language from age 2 to 3 significantly predicted decreases in RRBs, controlling for age in months, time between visits, and gains in nonverbal cognitive skills. This study contributes to the limited research that has examined early patterns and predictors of RRBs in young children with ASD.
