Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Cognitive Assessment Intellectual Disability PCFT K-BIT Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The Prudhoe Cognitive Function Test (PCFT) directly measures the cognitive abilities of people with intellectual impairment. This study examined the relationship between this instrument and the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-BIT) and two shorter versions of the same scale. High correlations between the verbal and performance sections of the K-BIT and the Long PCFT were found with correlation coefficients of 0.85 and 0.78, respectively. Extremely high correlations between the Short versions of the PCFT and the Long version were obtained at 0.97 for Form A and 0.98 for Form B, illustrating that both Short forms and the Long form are essentially interchangeable. The PCFT is a reliable and robust schedule in the assessment of cognitive function in this population. CICCHETTI, Auteur Année de publication : 2008 Article en page(s) : p.1311-1319 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autism Evidence-based-practice Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Although research in autism has grown more sophisticated, the gap between research knowledge and applicability of research in real world settings has grown. There have been a number of different reviews of evidence-based practices of treatments for young children with autism. Reviews which have critically evaluated the empirical evidence have not found any treatments that can be considered evidence-based. Reasons for this shortcoming are explored, and a new method for the evaluation of empirical evidence is provided. Future uses of this evaluative method are provided as well as a discussion of how this tool might aid in narrowing the research to practice gap. Titre : Evidence-Based Practices and Treatments for Children with Autism Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Brian REICHOW, Directeur de publication ; Peter DOEHRING, Directeur de publication ; Domenic V. CICCHETTI, Directeur de publication ; Fred R. VOLKMAR, Directeur de publication ; Alan E. KAZDIN, Préfacier, etc. Editeur : Berlin [Allemagne] : Springer Année de publication : 2010 Importance : 408 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 18cm x 26cm x 2,7cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4419-6973-6 Note générale : Bibliogr., Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : AUT-E AUT-E - L'Autisme - Accompagnement et Qualité de Vie Résumé : Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) have been increasingly diagnosed in recent years and carries with it far reaching social and financial implications. With this in mind, educators, physicians, and parents are searching for the best practices and most effective treatments. But because the symptoms of ASDs span multiple domains (e.g., communication and language, social, behavioral), successfully meeting the needs of a child with autism can be quite challenging.
Evidence-Based Practices and Treatments for Children with Autism offers an insightful and balanced perspective on topics ranging from the historical underpinnings of autism treatment to the use of psychopharmacology and the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). An evaluation methodology is also offered to reduce the risks and inconsistencies associated with the varying definitions of key autism terminology. This commitment to clearly addressing the complex issues associated with ASDs continues throughout the volume and provides opportunities for further research.
Additional issues addressed include:
•Behavioral excesses and deficits treatment
•Communication treatment
•Social awareness and social skills treatment
•Dietary, complementary, and alternative treatments
•Implementation of EBPs in school settings
•Interventions for sensory dysfunction
With its holistic and accessible approach, Evidence-Based Practices and Treatments for Children with Autism is a vital resource for school psychologists and special education professionals as well as allied mental health professionals, including clinical child and developmental psychologists, psychiatrist, pediatricians, primary care and community providers.
