S. SESHIA in Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 20-3 (June 1978)
[article]
Titre : The neurological manifestations of chronic inhalation of leaded gasoline Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : S. S. SESHIA, Auteur ; K. R. RAJANI, Auteur ; R. L. BOECKX, Auteur ; P. N. CHOW, Auteur Année de publication : 1978 Article en page(s) : p.323-334 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Abnormal neurological signs were found in 46 of 50 children and adolescents chronically sniffing leaded gasoline. These abnormalities resolved within eight weeks in all but one case. Exaggerated deep reflexes, postural tremor and evidence of cerebellar dysfunction occurred in a highly significnat number of patients. Forty-nine had blood lead levels greater than or equal to 40ug/dl. The mean blood lead levels were significantly higher in those with (a) abnormally brisk deep reflexes and (b) with evidence of cerebellar dysfunction, than in those without these findings. Five optional treatment regimes were employed and a classification was used, based on clinical findings, initial blood lead levels and the response to the calcium disodium edatate mobilization test. 39 patients received chelation therapy. These data suggest that neurological manifestations occur frequently in those abusing leaded gasoline and that chelation therapy has an important place in their management. [article]
Titre : The neuropathology of propionic acidemia Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Lawrence STEINMAN, Auteur ; Henry URICH, Auteur ; Robert R. CLANCY, Auteur ; Howard CANN, Auteur Année de publication : 1983 Article en page(s) : p.87-94 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The neuropathology in two biochemically documented cases of propionic acidemia is presented. While spongiform changes in white matter were seen in the infant who died at 12 days, no such changes were evident in an older patient who died at age 23 months. These findings are compared with other aminoacidemias. Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=560

HOLOCHWOST in Development and Psychopathology, 33-3 (August 2021)
[article]
Titre : The neurophysiological embedding of child maltreatment Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Steven J. HOLOCHWOST, Auteur ; Guan WANG, Auteur ; Jacek KOLACZ, Auteur ; W. Roger MILLS-KOONCE, Auteur ; J. Bart KLIKA, Auteur ; Sara R. JAFFEE, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.1107-1137 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : autonomic nervous system hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis maltreatment neurophysiology cortisol Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Maltreatment adversely impacts the development of children across a host of domains. One way in which maltreatment may exert its deleterious effects is by becoming embedded in the activity of neurophysiological systems that regulate metabolic function. This paper reviews the literature regarding the association between childhood maltreatment and the activity of three systems: the parasympathetic nervous system, the sympathetic nervous system, and the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis. A particular emphasis is placed on the extent to which the literature supports a common account of activity across these systems under conditions of homeostasis and stress. The paper concludes with an outline of directions for future research and the implications of the literature for policy and practice.
