The individuals with autism reported impairment on all AQ subscales, compared to the neurotypical group. The schizophrenia group reported deficits on all subscales except Attention to Detail, compared to the neurotypical group.
The autism group reported more impairment than the individuals with schizophrenia in Social skill, Communication and Attention switching.En ligne : http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.rasd.2011.01.002 Permalink : https://www.cra-rhone-alpes.org/cid/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=119

Titre : The use of the Denver Developmental Screening Test in infant welfare clinics Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Michael JAFFE, Auteur ; S. T. WINTER, Auteur ; J. HAREL, Auteur ; A. GOLDBERG, Auteur ; M. RUDOLPH-SCHNITZER, Auteur Année de publication : 1980 Article en page(s) : p.55-60 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The results of a single Denver Developmental Screening Test performed at the age of nine months on 823 infants attending maternal and child health centres were compared with the developmental information recorded by public health nurses during their routine well-baby care of these same infants. The single Denver test detected a significantly greater number of infants with developmental delay than did the routine observations, and the nurses tended to under-use the available resources for developmental assessment. Suggestions are made for more effective use of maternal and child health centres in the primary recognition of developmental delay. [article]
Titre : The use of the valvogram for the detection of shunt blockage in hydrocephalic children Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : R. C. EVANS, Auteur ; THOMAS M. D., Auteur ; L. A. WILLIAMS, Auteur Année de publication : 1975 Article en page(s) : p.94-98 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Valvography is a simple, safe, rapid, easily interpreted technique for the investigation of possible blockage of the distal end of the shunt system containing a Spitz-Holter valve. Details are presented of 64 investigations in 46 children, 30 of which demonstrated distal obstruction of the shunt system. The unreliability of some physical signs is discussed. No serious complications were encountered and the procedure has proved to be a valuable addition to the practical management of shunt-dependent children. Titre : The Use of Video Modeling With the Picture Exchange Communication System to Increase Independent Communicative Initiations in Preschoolers With Autism and Developmental Delays Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : David F. CIHAK, Auteur ; Catherine C. SMITH, Auteur ; Ashlee CORNETT, Auteur ; Mari Beth COLEMAN, Auteur Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : p.3-11 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : video modeling autism communication PECS Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The use of video modeling (VM) procedures in conjunction with the picture exchange communication system (PECS) to increase independent communicative initiations in preschool-age students was evaluated in this study. The four participants were 3-year-old children with limited communication skills prior to the intervention. Two of the students had been diagnosed with autism and two students exhibited developmental delays. An alternating treatments design was used to examine the effects of using VM as a priming technique to enhance the efficacy of students acquiring PECS and increasing the number of independent communicative initiations. Based on the data, the authors concluded that all students learned to use PECS and increased the number of independent communicative initiations; however, the students’ rate of learning was quicker when using VM. Conclusions are discussed in the context of using empirically based interventions to teach communication skills to students with disabilities and limited verbal skills. [article]
Titre : The Use of Weighted Vests with Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Other Disabilities Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Jennifer STEPHENSON, Auteur ; Mark CARTER, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p.105-114 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Sensory-integration Weighted-vests Autism ADHD Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Therapists who use sensory integration therapy may recommend that children wear weighted vests as an intervention strategy that they claim may assist in remediating problems such as inattentiveness, hyperactivity, stereotypic behaviors and clumsiness. Seven studies examining weighted vests are reviewed. While there is only a limited body of research and a number of methodological weaknesses, on balance, indications are that weighted vests are ineffective. There may be an arguable case for continued research on this intervention but weighted vests cannot be recommended for clinical application at this point. Suggestions are offered for future research with regard to addressing methodological problems.
