Des changements importants ont cours, mettant en tension l’enseignement spécialisé avec les évolutions de l’enseignement ordinaire dans la prise en charge des besoins particuliers d’une part, avec une tendance importante à la pathologisation et à la médicalisation des réponses à ces besoins d’autre part, avec les dispositifs de compensation et d’accessibilité qui se mettent progressivement en place, enfin. Le territoire de l’enseignement spécialisé prend dans ces contextes une autre configuration : s’inscrivant dans le paradigme de l’école inclusive, qui doit en quelque sorte se spécialiser pour répondre à des besoins particuliers, l’enseignement spécialisé se positionne comme ressource dans des territoires pour lesquels l’enseignement ordinaire n’a pas de réponses. L’épreuve consiste à observer des images de mains dont l’orientation et la présentation (palmaire ou dorsale) varient, puis à juger le plus rapidement possible si la main présentée est la droite ou la gauche. Bien que très utilisée dans le domaine de la recherche, cette épreuve restait inaccessible aux cliniciens, car non standardisée et étalonnée jusqu’ici. Pour combler ce manque, nous avons adapté et étalonné cette épreuve chez des enfants âgés de 7 à 11 ans. Les propriétés psychométriques indiquent notamment une excellente sensibilité de l’outil (Ô = 1), une bonne stabilité test-retest ((CC = .68), une excellente cohérence interne (KR20 = .91), une validité de contenu très satisfaisante, et une bonne capacité du TIMI-1 à prédire les performances à un test de dextérité manuelle (validité de critère).
