ADHD Subtype Differences in Motivational Responsivity but not Inhibitory Control: Evidence From a Reward-Based Variation of the Stop Signal Paradigm / Cynthia L. HUANG-POLLOCK in Journal of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology, 36-2 (April-June 2007)

Titre : ADHD Subtype Differences in Motivational Responsivity but not Inhibitory Control: Evidence From a Reward-Based Variation of the Stop Signal Paradigm Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Cynthia L. HUANG-POLLOCK, Auteur ; Amori Yee MIKAMI, Auteur ; Linda PFIFFNER, Auteur ; Keith MCBURNETT, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p.127-136 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : In this study we examined prepotent motor inhibition and responsiveness to reward using a variation of the stop signal reaction time (SSRT) task in clinic- and community-recruited children ages 7 to 12 with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder—inattentive type (ADHD—I), ADHD—combined type (ADHD—C), and non-ADHD controls. Contrary to theoretical expectations, we found evidence for inhibitory weaknesses in ADHD—I. We also found evidence that although children with ADHD—I were able to improve their inhibitory control given reward-based motivation, the improvement depended on the order of reward conditions. Results suggest that the 2 primary subtypes of ADHD share similar neuropsychological weaknesses in inhibitory control but that there are subtype differences in response to success and failure that contribute to a child's ultimate level of performance. Titre : ADHD Symptoms in Adults with Asperger’s Disorder: Findings from a Sample in Japan Type de document : Texte imprimé et/ou numérique Auteurs : Taisei OHNO, Auteur ; Masayuki TANI, Auteur ; Miki IGARASHI, Auteur ; Yuka OKAJIMA, Auteur ; Nobumasa KATO, Auteur ; Akira IWANAMI, Auteur Article en page(s) : 4 p. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Asperger’s disorder PDD ADHD CAARS AQ Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : Introduction: DSM-IV and ICD-10 criteria do not allow co-diagnosis of Pervasive Developmental Disorders(PDD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but some researchers have noted that persons with PDD including Asperger’s disorder (AS) sometimes have symptoms similar to those of ADHD. The present study evaluated ADHD symptoms in adults with AS using Conner’s Adult ADHD Rating Scales screening version (CAARS-S:SV) in a Japanese sample. Methods: The present study evaluated ADHD symptoms in 40 adults with AS and 38 normal adults using CAARS-S:SV, Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ), Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ), and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). The AS and the normal control group did not differ significantly in age, sex ratio, or estimated IQ. Results: Total, Inattention/Memory, and Hyperactivity/Restlessness scores of CAARS-S:SV were significantly higher in persons with AS than those in controls. In persons with AS, there was no significant correlation among three CAARS-S: SV scores and AQ. Discussion: These findings indicated that adults with AS have considerable ADHD symptoms, as well as in childhood and adolescence reported in previous reports. The results that in persons with AS total score of AQ was not correlated with CAARS scores indicated that ASD and ADHD have different pathophysiology. DAVIS, Auteur Article en page(s) : p.1347-1356 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : ASD Autism ADHD Internalizing problems Depression Somatization Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The current study sought to understand the relation between diagnostic status (autism spectrum disorders [ASD] versus typically developing) and internalizing problems in children with and without co-occurring attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Participants were 88 children, ages 3:0–6:11, their parents and teachers. Findings indicated that ADHD symptoms moderated the relation between diagnostic status and depressive and somatic symptoms. High ADHD symptoms in children with ASD were associated with increased depressive and somatic symptoms compared to children with typical development. Findings suggest poor prognostic outcomes for children with ASD and co-occurring ADHD symptoms and highlight the need for early identification and targeted intervention. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The purpose of the present research is to optimize the use of the data available at the Speech-and-Language in Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Laboratory, after 25 years of assessment and intervention with children and adolescents with ASD. The data about over 400 individuals regarding their social demographic characteristics, and adherence to speech-language therapy may provide important data to guarantee the provision of SLP services to children with autism spectrum disorders. The fact that boys seem to get to the service earlier and stay longer than girls must be addressed, in order to guarantee to the female population the same kind of opportunities provided to males. SYMONS, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p.1173-1184 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Adherence Parents Autism-spectrum-disorders Index. décimale : PER Périodiques Résumé : The extent to which parents of children with intellectual or developmental disabilities are adherent to prescribed treatments has not been investigated. In this treatment adherence study, parents (n = 220) of children with autism spectrum disorders were surveyed regarding implementation of recommended treatments to manage problem behavior of their children living at home. Overall adherence to medical treatment recommendations was significantly greater than adherence to behavioral treatment recommendations (p < .002). Of the behavioral treatment recommendations, parents reported greater adherence to reinforcement (81.7%) than punishment (68.9%). Child diagnosis (p < .002) and the diagnosis × marital status interaction (p < .05) were significantly associated with reported adherence to behavioral and medical treatment, respectively. Results are discussed in light of the need to address adherence enhancement and measurement methods.
